Family vacations on the Ile de Ré

Family vacation memories are among the most precious. The island of Ré makes them even more memorable.
It’s time for the whole family to enjoy this outdoor sports and leisure paradise, where a thousand and one adventures, between land and sea, will provide you with magical moments rich in meaning.

A thousand and one adventures

Between culture and nature

Discovering the different environments of the Ile de Ré ecosystem is one of the most fun ways to get to know the area as a family: the seaside, salt marshes, forests, village centers and cultural sites all come together.

At the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve, our guides and eco-guards offer several outings and activities throughout the year, depending on the weather. Fishing on foot, safaris, birdwatching and other daytime and nocturnal explorations are all exciting and educational.

Exploring the island becomes an exciting family adventure with the Terra Aventura and ONF Découverte applications. The former specializes in Geocaching, offering treasure hunts in Loix and Bois-plage, while the latter offers connected walks in the villages of La Couarde and Les Portes-en-Ré.

Curious minds will have plenty to do, with visits to heritage sites and museums all over the region, and will be able to find out all they need to know about the island’s history, maritime traditions and biodiversity.

Throughout the year, discovery and educational workshops are organized by museums, media libraries and associations, enabling children to develop their creative spirit and keep busy while they learn!

The Ile de Ré is recognized as a family destination par excellence, and in 2019 it will be awarded the “Famille Plus” label, guaranteeing a warm welcome and top-quality services and facilities for all families.

To please your toddlers before indulging in an ice-cream treat, pay a visit to the lovable donkeys in knickerbockers on Saint-Martin or the Poitou baudets on the glacis of the fortifications – they’re the island’s real mascots!

Sports and leisure between land and ocean

Ré’s island charm attracts lovers of water sports and other beach activities even outside the summer months. Head for the beaches of Bois-Plage, La Couarde, Saint-Clément or Les Portes for surfing, kitesurfing, sailing and other sensational water sports.

Beginners can try their hand at the many introductory courses on offer all year round. In summer, you can even try parasailing on Saint-Martin.

The joys of the sea can also be experienced by boat! Here, too, there’s something for everyone who loves sea excursions . The joys of sport can also be found on the multi-sports fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, skatepark or playgrounds accessible in all the island’s villages. The mini-golf course at Saint-Martin-de-Ré will delight the whole family before or after a gourmet break in the heart of the village.

Leisure activities for all

Aficionados of life-size strategic games can go on an adventure with numerous Escape Games that invite them to discover the island.
Ré has more than one trick up its sleeve to keep the whole family happy by combining sport, culture and nature on foot, by bike or on horseback! There’s something for all ages, from the very young to the very old!
In the evening, to round off the day in style, take part in the many festivities organized in the ten villages from April to October: theme parties, funfairs, festivals, concerts, theater, open-air cinema and more. There’s something for every member of the family.

The island of gourmet pleasures

It’s impossible to visit the island of Ré without mentioning local flavors and other pleasures for the palate.
Bistros, restaurants, ice-cream parlors and oyster huts are all great ways to sample local specialties, as are production tours and family-friendly workshops.

The “gourmet loops” offered by the tourist office are a pleasant way to meet producers, salt producers, oyster farmers and winegrowers by bike. And, as the island’s know-how doesn’t stop at seafood, these outings allow you to enjoy honey, cookies, beer and coffee all over the island.

Without a doubt, you’ll be back for more!
