Beaches in tune with the seasons

Whatever the season, the beaches of the Ile de Ré promise unforgettable experiences, with each visit revealing a new face of the island. (Re)discover these exceptional landscapes all year round.

To suit your mood

With 100 km of coastline, the beaches of the Ile de Ré are among the most beautiful in Europe. They have many faces and offer a variety of atmospheres to suit your desires for discovery, sensations or idleness!

The most beautiful sandy beaches are located in the south of the island, bordered by dunes or forests. From Gros Jonc beach at Bois-Plage to Les Prises beach at La Couarde, there are several sandy stretches in these villages classified as seaside resorts. They are protected and ideal for swimming, as is the case at the northern end of the island, from the Phare des Baleines to the village of Portes-en-Ré, where the magnificent Conche des Baleines beach stretches out.

At the tip of the Ile de Ré, near the golf course and the Banc du Bûcheron, the coves of Trousse Chemise are full of charm, with a feeling of having reached the end of the world.
In some villages, such as Saint-Martin, La Flotte and Ars, the coastline offers more rocky coves and marinas. The coastline from Sainte-Marie to Saint-Clément is quieter, and more attractive to anglers, with a wilder aspect. Finally, Rivedoux is the only village with a port and two large sandy beaches stretching out on either side of the Pont de Ré.

And through the seasons

In spring, the beaches of the Ile de Ré awaken to an explosion of color and life. The dunes are adorned with wild flowers. Mild temperatures invite long walks on the sand, where you can discover hidden treasures. It’s the perfect time to explore the coastal paths on foot or by bike, and enjoy the peace and quiet before the summer rush.

In summer, the beaches become the focus of the island’s attention. The ocean and its long stretches of fine sand attract families, water sports enthusiasts and sun lovers alike. There’s plenty to do: swimming, surfing, sailing, paddling and lounging under a parasol.

Autumn brings a gentle serenity to the beaches of the Retais. The summer crowds dissipate, giving way to a calmer, more introspective atmosphere. Sunsets take on golden hues and landscapes are transformed by the first fresh breezes. It’s the perfect time for seaside strolls, fishing, or simply relaxing to the murmur of the waves.

Winter reveals the wild, untamed beauty of the beaches. Winter weather carves new shapes into the sand, and the waves offer an impressive spectacle. Walks on the beach are invigorating, with fresh, invigorating sea air. It’s a time for contemplation and inspiration, ideal for nature lovers and photographers in search of spectacular shots.

Whatever the season, the beaches of the Ile de Ré promise unforgettable experiences, with each visit revealing a new face of this enchanting island. Come and discover and rediscover these exceptional landscapes all year round.

Preservation

Dunes are fragile and precious ecosystems, essential to the protection of our coastline and local biodiversity. To preserve these natural spaces, it’s crucial to follow a few simple but important rules:

  • Stay on marked paths: walking off the beaten track decimates sensitive plants and accelerates dune erosion.
  • Don’t pick vegetation: dune plants play a vital role in sand stability. Removing them upsets the ecological balance.
  • Respect local wildlife: dunes are home to many species of birds and insects. Avoid disturbing their habitat.
  • Pick up your garbage: always take your garbage with you to keep the dunes clean and safe for everyone. Many beaches are also littered with tidepools.
  • Get informed: information panels are set up along the trails to help you better understand the importance of these natural environments and how to protect them.

Together, lets protect this natural treasure
to preserve the beauty and integrity of the dunes on the Ile de Ré.
