Rendezvous in a land of excellence
The Coopérative des Sauniers is an essential stop-off point for your salt supplies.
With over 80 years’ experience and 70 members, the Coopérative des Sauniers de l’île de Ré helps to maintain salt production, a precious asset for the island, by combining the independence of salt producers with the pooling of resources.
Through all its actions, the Coopérative des Sauniers de l’île de Ré enables its members to make a living from their trade and perpetuate the salt-making activity. Mutual aid is at the heart of the actions carried out by this group of enthusiasts. In terms of logistics, no less than twenty employees work every day to ensure the packaging and marketing of the salt.
Proud of their ancestral and responsible craft, these salt growers work in marshes shaped by man for a thousand years, using the same methods as in the past. When summer arrives, concentration is at its highest in the salt pans, leading to two specific crystallizations: coarse salt at the bottom of the clay basins and fleur de sel at the surface of the water.
A benchmark both here and abroad, Les Sauniers de l’île de Ré salt is an example of authenticity that respects the environment and is committed to a sustainable future. Committed to quality and sustainable development, the Sauniers de l’île de Ré Cooperative is engaged in an ongoing quality process. Each year, it undergoes a demanding control audit by an external organization, to ensure the constant quality of its products.
Attentive to customer demand, Les Sauniers de l’île de Ré offers a full range of salt (fleur de sel, coarse salt, salt with herbs, etc.) and local products (salicornes, caramels, mustard, etc.). To discover all these products, stop off at La Cabane des Sauniers, a warm and friendly place just a stone’s throw from the Ars-en-Ré marshes.
