Ré Ostréa

Published on 9 August 2024

Ré Ostréa was born in 2009.
Today, this family-run oyster shack, where you can enjoy a platter of oysters overlooking the sea,
is an unmissable stopover for bon vivants.

Fill up on good iodine

Harvested in a spirit of sharing, oysters, the original products of the Ile de Ré, travel from the spat to the plate for an explosion of flavors, sometimes soft and round, sometimes rich and wild. Peacefully matured for three years, respecting their natural cycle, they are refined in the open sea. The harvesting methods used are traditional and respectful of the surrounding environment.

The Fournier family has more than one trick up its sleeve to satisfy gourmets of iodized flavors. Le QG de la Mer, a renovated oyster shack open daily from April to September, is also a not-to-be-missed address for tasting all the treasures of the sea.

L’Antre 2

In 2024, the opening of L’Antre 2 added to the already extensive range of products offered by these producers.

Quentin Fournier, Didier’s son, is in charge.
The site offers tastings and guided tours, from the oyster beds to the oyster sorting area, as well as oyster opening courses.

  • Didier Fournier is adamant that to talk about production, you have to live it:
“I appreciate it when staff, even seasonal workers who are just passing through, come out to sea to work with us on production. I think it’s important to pass on our know-how to our customers.
  • Martin, a year-round employee at his side, adds:
“At Ré Ostréa, it’s true that we work in two phases. In winter, we work on production and are out at sea to follow the oyster process. In the summer, at the hut, we work more closely with our customers, which is different, but just as stimulating”.

The Fournier family is also a team united around shared values: the art of sharing and conviviality.

And it’s not Agathe, a member of the team, who will say otherwise: “Working at Ré Ostréa means having the pleasure of working in a relaxed, positive atmosphere. There’s a strong ‘family’ spirit. Our customers are often pleasantly surprised by the idyllic setting in which they arrive, and this is reflected in our relationship with them”.

With customers increasingly attentive to the origin and quality of what they consume, Ré Ostréa decided to invest in an oyster shredder. This eco-responsible approach means, for example, that oyster shells can be recycled as chicken feed or landscape ornaments. In fact, the shredding stage is on the program of the guided tours that will be offered at l’Antre 2!

The company is also working with the environmental association Echo-Mer to recycle its oyster bags in order to reduce the volume of its waste.
