Here we take a break

Bons Baisers De… l’île de Ré!

Our favorite time to spend a few days on the Ile de Ré is in spring or late summer. When the tourists haven’t yet arrived or left. That’s when the island is quieter and you can breathe easier. And the best way to get around is by bike. The cycling network is extremely well-developed, making it easy to get from north to south and east to west. This makes the ride seem like a vacation (when in fact, on Monday, you’re back at work).

If we had to choose just 3 places on the Ile de Ré, we’d go for :

  • Le Phare des Baleines: islands always have a lighthouse. It’s something of a symbol. It’s a symbol of sorts, and we love getting up high to get a better sense of the geography. The view from up there is simply sublime!
  • Saint Martin en Ré: the island’s capital. This is a lovely village. The port is always bustling. We like to stroll around and watch the boats, or sit in the sun on a restaurant terrace to watch the passers-by and catch up on all the news. And don’t forget to lose yourself in the narrow streets – they’re well worth the detour!
  • Trousse-Chemise beach: the jewel of the Ile de Ré! At the far end of the island, only the most curious venture there (and that’s probably why this place is so special). There, you’ll discover a pretty beach of fine sand and crystal-clear, tranquil water. What a delight to swim in. Pack a picnic and a book, and you’ll have the perfect day.

When it comes to accommodation, it all depends on what you want. Camping or hotel?

  • If you’re more into tents and barbecues, we recommend you book a spot on the lawn at Camping du Phare. The location is ideal: between the lighthouse and the pretty Trousse-Chemise beach!
  • Prefer to sleep in a comfortable bed? Then head for the Hotel Jerodel in Bois-Plage. Close to the town center, you can visit the market on Sunday mornings and enjoy their lovely swimming pool in the afternoon.

Spend a day on the island of Ré and you’ll feel like you’re on vacation!

Bons Baisers De ...

Bons Baisers De… is the story of 2 lovers who love to discover the world around them. Mexico, Vietnam, Norway… Whenever time permits, we load up our backpacks with our cameras and our desire to discover new places. There are so many places to discover, our dreams aren’t about to come to an end. But let’s not forget that there are also beautiful things to see close to home. And sometimes, you don’t have to go far… like, for example, spending some quality time on the Ile de Ré.
