 The morning

Explore the villages and heritage of the Retais for a day

Start your tour with a visit to the island’s oldest religious monument: the Abbaye des Châteliers, located between Rivedoux-Plage and La Flotte.

Then head for the village of La Flotte, with its medieval market, flower-filled streets and harbour, which will amaze and fascinate you.

Listed as one of France’s most beautiful villages, La Flotte’s charm will not leave you indifferent.

At the end of the morning, discover the fortified village of Saint-Martin. The island’s capital offers a multitude of diverse landscapes: harbor, ocean, narrow streets, park and fortifications – everything you need to live at the Retais pace for a day. Lunch on the harbor or in the narrow streets of the village awaits you before continuing your day.

 In the afternoon

Discover a natural, picturesque and wild island

After sampling local produce, head for the north of the island to discover the famous Phare des Baleines lighthouse and its panoramic view of the island and its inlets. The north of the island is renowned for its wilderness. For an even more intense experience, don’t hesitate to rent bicycles to ride through the salt marshes.

Along the way, you may come across the “honesty boxes” set up by the salt producers to sell their salt, providing an unusual local souvenir. Meet the birds that grace the north of the island at the Lilleau des Niges bird sanctuary.

On the way back, take your time to admire the mosaic of landscapes on offer!

Did you know?

The fortifications of Saint-Martin were built by Vauban under the reign of Louis XIV between 1681 and 1691
to protect the population from potential enemy landings.
