Getting around Ile de Ré

There are several ways to get around the island of Ré

To get from the center of a village to the beach, or from your accommodation to the market, for example, thermal or electric shuttles are available in high season, while other shuttles take you from one village to another. Last but not least, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region’s regular 3/3E bus service covers the whole island.

By bike

The most typical way to get around the island is, of course, by bike: eco-friendly, practical, sporty and often faster than the car on busy days. With 138 km of cycle lanes and a flat surface, the island of Ré stands out as the ideal destination for lovers of cycling and soft mobility.
In every village, you’ll find a wide range of bike rental outlets, including electric-assist bikes.

On foot

In the villages, walking is also a great way to enjoy all the island has to offer, while at the same time getting some exercise, distances remaining reasonable.

By bus

On site, you can take the same buses as those arriving from La Rochelle: the 3 and the 3E.
From Sablanceaux to Les Portes-en-Ré, passing through all the island’s villages and main points of interest, the bus makes it easy to get around and reduces traffic on the roads.
Single ticket: €2.30, return ticket: €4.10.

By electric shuttle
