- How do I get to Ile de Ré?
There are many ways to get to the Ile de Ré: bus, shuttle, car, bike, train and plane (to La Rochelle), boat or cab.

- What is the price of the re bridge?
In high season (June to September), the bridge costs €16.
In low season, from mid-September to the end of June, the bridge costs 8€.
- How big is the Ile de Ré?
Île de Ré is over 30 km long and covers an area of 85 km².
Its width varies from 5 km to 70 m.
- Are there any cycle paths on the Ile de Ré?
Yes, the Ile de Ré is equipped with almost 140 km of cycle paths.
You can cycle anywhere and at any time, from south to north, inland, through vineyards, along the ocean and even in the salt marshes. However, it’s important to respect the highway code and not to ride on the départementale, a road reserved exclusively for motor vehicles. - Is it possible to come to the Ile de Ré without a car?
From La Rochelle station or the airport, you can take the year-round bus service from La Rochelle to Les Portes-en-Ré to reach the island. Once you’re on the island, you can get around by bike, with over 130 km of cycle lanes and a free electric shuttle service (March to September).

- Is there public transport on the Ile de Ré?
Yes, all year round, bus line 3 takes you from La Rochelle to Les Portes-en-Ré, and from March to September/October, free electric shuttles take you from one village to another.

- Is it possible to get around on foot on the Ile de Ré?
In the villages, walking is the best way to discover them.
Between villages, it’s more difficult to get around on foot, but it’s possible. For example, you’ll find an oceanfront path between Fort la Prée and the village of Saint-Martin, some 10km long.
Cycling is a perfect complement to walking for exploring the area!

- What makes the Ile de Ré so special?
The Ile de Ré is renowned for its pretty villages, historic heritage and beaches, but that’s not all.
The south of the island boasts vineyards, forests and long beaches, notably at La Couarde and Le Bois-Plage, as well as pretty villages such as La Flotte and Saint-Martin.
The north of the island is wilder, with beaches surrounded by forests, and of course the famous salt marshes as far as the eye can see.The island of Ré is full of changing landscapes, and in just a few kilometers you can go from one to the next.
- I'm here for the weekend, what must I see?
For a weekend, we recommend visiting the villages of La Flotte, Saint-Martin and Ars, visiting the Phare des Baleines lighthouse and strolling through the salt marshes.

There are many sea outings to choose from, which you can find by visiting your local tourist office. Catamaran, motorboat, short outing or day trip, there’s something for everyone.

- What's the difference between Ile de Ré and Ile d'Oléron?
The Ile d’Oléron is larger than the Ile de Ré and, overall, wilder.
Île de Ré is renowned for its oyster and salt production, while Île d’Oléron is famous for its mussels, fish and oysters.
The best thing to do is to try out both islands to get an idea, and you don’t even have to choose which one you prefer – just enjoy them both, in your own way!

- Do you charge for brochures?
All our brochures are free of charge and available at all ten Destination Ile de Ré tourist offices.

- What should I do with my brochures at the end of my stay?
The Destination Ile de Ré tourist office promotes the recycling of its brochures.
Recycling boxes have been set up and are available at reception desks to give a second life to all brochures that can be reused, thus promoting reuse in a bid to minimize paper consumption.

Yes, but there are many restrictions on dog access to beaches.
Not all beaches accept dogs.We recommend that you consult the regulations governing dogs on beaches on the Ile de Ré.

You’ll find a tourist office in each of the ten villages. You’ll be able to meet our tourist advisors to help you make the most of your stay, not only at the reception desks, but also, during the high season, on a mobile bike around the region.

No, there are no cab ranks on the Ile de Ré, only independent cabs.
Remember to book your cab as far in advance as possible to come to or leave the island.
