What are tides? How do they work?
The tide refers to the upward and downward movement of the oceans and seas. It’s the result of the attraction of the moon and sun on the sea, but also of the earth’s rotation!
In France, we speak of the tidal coefficient.
The tidal range is the difference in level between high and low tide.
The coefficient ranges from 20 to 120 and is calculated by taking into account the height of high tide and the mean sea level. High tides are those that exceed 95.
On a 24-hour day in the Atlantic, for example, there are 4 tides in all: 2 high tides and 2 low tides.
“These daily variations allow for a wide range of activities: at high tide, water sports and activities, swimming, and at low tide, fishing, fish locks and, whatever the tide, beautiful walks, sand castles or sports!
