Are you a touring cyclist? If you’re on the Vélodyssée and Vélo Francette, two national itineraries passing through La Rochelle, take the time to stop off on the Ile de Ré.
To reach us, take the bike bridge, get some height and let the island reveal itself to you at the rhythm of your progress. Once you’re in the area, three loops included in the departmental Véloroutes et Voies Vertes plan allow you to discover the coastline, forests and salt marshes that give our island its charm. As you cycle along these routes, take a break in one of our ten villages and learn more about our history and heritage.

If you don’t know where to start, the tourist office suggests 6 different themed rides to explore the different landscapes and awaken your senses. If you don’t have your own bike, there are many rental companies in the area who can offer you the chance to rent one for half a day, a day or even several days! Come and experience our island in a sustainable way, close to nature!
Before you get on your bike, drop in to one of the island’s tourist offices to pick up your cycle route map, which lists the entire cycle network, a selection of points of interest and viewpoints, a table showing the distances separating villages and giving you an idea of the average time it takes to reach them, not forgetting a reminder of the safety rules that are essential if you want to get around in complete peace of mind!
