Discover the Loix tide mill
This mill, built between the XIVᵉ and XVIIᵉ centuries, was used to grind, but also to cause what are known as ‘chasses’ which enabled the harbour to be cleaned of mud, and to manage the passages to the south and the Ile de Ré, being the only place through which to pass. Hence its other name, Moulin à marée du passage.

In 2010, after the Xynthia storm, the prefecture classified it as a black zone, threatening to destroy it. But the locals refused to see it disappear and it was preserved,...
